Walking
The Hayburn Wyke Inn
is an ideal starting point for your walk. The Cleveland Way long distance walk
passes us forming the cliff top path and the old Scarborough/Whitby railway is
now a safe and gentle path suitable for young, elderly or less able walkers (as
well as being a perfect return route if you have over exerted yourself). The two
walks can be combined to make pretty circular routes.
Walk 1
North to Ravenscar - Full day
circular walk. 8 miles
From the Hayburn Wyke
take the path down towards the beach, passing through woodland maintained by the
National trust as a nature reserve. Be sure to admire the waterfall and secluded
beach before taking the Cleveland Way North to Ravenscar, where there are
toilets, a cafe and a hotel. On the journey you have superb coastal views
as well as views of the "undercliff" which because of its inaccessibility
is a home to deer, foxes and badgers. At Station Square, Ravenscar you can
follow the disused railway back to the Hayburn Wyke
