THE
HAYBURN WYKE INN

Walking
The Hayburn Wyke Inn is an ideal starting point for your walk. The Cleveland Way long distance walk passes us forming the cliff top path and the old Scarborough/Whitby railway is now a safe and gentle path suitable for young, elderly or less able walkers (as well as being a perfect return route if you have over exerted yourself). The two walks can be combined to make pretty circular routes.

Walk 1 North to Ravenscar - Full day circular walk. 8 miles
From the Hayburn Wyke take the path down towards the beach, passing through woodland maintained by the National trust as a nature reserve. Be sure to admire the waterfall and secluded beach before taking the Cleveland Way North to Ravenscar, where there are toilets, a cafe and a hotel. On the journey you  have superb coastal views as well as views of the "undercliff" which because of its inaccessibility is a home to deer, foxes and badgers. At Station Square, Ravenscar you can follow the disused railway back to the Hayburn Wyke

Ravenscar Cliffs, The old railway path, The Sealife Centre and Bempton Cliffs

Walk 2 South to Scarborough - Full day circular walk. 10 miles
From the Hayburn Wyke take the path down towards the beach, passing through the woods. At the cliff top turn right, following the  Cleveland Way South to Scalby Mills where you are greeted by the pyramid shaped buildings of the Sealife Centre. On the way you have breathtaking coastal views of Scarborough Castle, Filey Brigg and the sheer chalk cliffs of Flamborough and Bempton. At Scalby Mills turn inland before crossing Scalby beck on the signed footpath which brings you out on the Coastal Road. walk North on this road past the Scalby Manor Hotel and Caravan Park then turn down Station Road. Walk down Station Road towards the village of Scalby turning off at the railway bridge onto the disused railway line which you follow North back to the Hayburn Wyke.

The North York Moors webcam Hayburn Wyke Site contains some dramatic pictures of the local scenery including the waterfall and cove.
